The albums were selected by a nationally certified teacher/trainer and cover a broad range of material. With the built-in microphone on the MP3 player, teachers can readily create differentiated material for each student, who can practice and make their own recordings for a permanent record or for publishing via a podcast. Podcasting is a great way to expand learning beyond the classroom or library, and at the same time actively engage students in a new way through this accessible and exciting new modality. MP3 Capable Music Maker™ Multimedia Player* The MP3 capable Music Maker is designed to support audio assisted classroom learning. Engineered for durability and reliability, it's made with rugged ABS plastic (which won't shatter) unlike most consumer products so it will stand up to daily classroom use. It has a cassette recorder / player, 20 track programmable CD player, and an AM-FM stereo. It can also play teacher created digital content to help with customizing materials for differentiated learning situations such as working with students to promote phonemic awareness, phonics, comprehension, vocabulary, ELL, ELD and other language learning activities. Store bought CDs are formatted CD containing CDA files (which prevent the copying of copyright material), which the majority of CD players can read and play. CDs burned by consumers duplicate an exact copy of the original (including the CDA files). Most CD players will play copied CDs unless they have a mechanism that will not allow copied copyright material to be read by the CD drivers. MP3 audio files use a unique format (with a greatly reduced file size) which allows someone to put more content onto a single CD. Only certain CD players can read this unique disk. You cannot create an MP3 CD and use it with any CD player even though the CDs may appear identical. However the files inserted onto the disk are indeed different. The MP3 capable Music Maker can read this unique CD. Califone recommends that customers use a program that automatically converts wma, wav and other associated files into MP3 formats. The reason for this is that such programs automatically convert the files so you don't have to manually convert them. If you do not have software such as this, than make sure that you convert the files to MP3 files via generic burning software. The Califone boom box can only read MP3s and Cdda files. Cdda's are the standard file format for store bought CDs; and Mp3's are the standard compressed files used for music or general audio files. Since the rate of play on CD's is slower than the larger memory cache stores information, the Music Maker™ will occasionally stop spinning the CD (even though music will continue to be heard). Performer Plus* The Performer Plus is the most flexible multimedia player/recorder designed for use in educational settings. Its 14-watts are powerful enough for projecting music or voices out to 100 students, and with a built-in mic input, it enables the Performer Plus to be also used as a PA system for making announcements. The upgraded Performer Plus can now read CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3-CDs, enabling it to play discs burned by personal computers. It also has variable speed playback (up to +/- 15% in increments of 3%) for its CD/Cassette players, making it ideal for differentiated language learning as well as music & dance instruction. It also has built-in learning center capabilities, making it perfect for classroom and library uses too. There are five 1/4" headphone jacks on the rear and a single 3.5mm headphone jack on the top, enabling the Performer Plus to be used for independent study and group activities.
